The best animal in the world

The best animal in the world

The best animal in the world is a chicken.

A chook helps in the garden, they have five toes and lay eggs. They molt about around March to Winter when they are older and young. They are all different colours like black, white, yellow, brown, blue and grey.

There are three reasons why chooks are the best animal in the world.

Firstly, chooks are a recycling helper.
They make mulch for you and they eat food scraps for you.

Secondly, chooks are handy when they lay eggs. They will lay five or more eggs a week.

Lastly, chooks are a very good with the garden because they mix the mulch.
They mix the mulch with their feet and clear your garden.

I clearly believe that chooks are the best animal in the world because they make mulch, lay eggs once a day and they mix the mulch with there feet.

Luke's birthday

Today is my friend's birthday it is very exciting. He brought in cup cakes. They were so yum! He got a wii game and a DS game and a giant globe, it is cool. He is having a birthday party at his house.
Also, in class on his birthday he doesn't like to do work he likes to have fun.

THE NEXT DAY
Last night he had his party, he told me that he stayed up and played his ds and didn't go to sleep. The things he got for his birthday are a Pirates of the Caribbean Lego wii game and he got lots of other things to. At lunch he played Junior Survivor, a game he made up.

Kits and Cats

Kits and Cats

by kaia and kaliah

Under our Discovery verandah we have a cat with a couple of kittens. Kaliah and Kaia are trying to get a cat trap that will not harm the cat family and then they will take them to the RSPCA. the RSPCA would not come and get them & neither would the Local Council. Kenards did have cat traps so we are getting the stuff from there. Some of the children are bringing in cat carry cages and cat food. We also needed to catch the mum so kaia and kaliah's families prayed that they would catch all of them. To hire the cat trap it costed $ 52.00 a week so our class brought in $3.00 each on Friday the 27th we counted up the money we only just have enough!
Stay tuned for more on our cats!

The Planets

The Planets CD

By Gustav Holst

A few weeks ago Discovery class listened to "The Planets" by Gustav Holst and we had to do paintings and work sheets about them. So this is what I thought about the songs...

Mars Bringer of War made me feel frightened and a bit scared. It was a bit scary!

Venus the Bringer of Peace makes me feel calm and rested. Much better after Mars!

Mercury the winged messenger made me feel nice and happy, I could also picture a snowy window. Some other people thought it sounded like Christmas. How nice!

Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity made me think of royalty. It also made me feel happy and big. What a song!

I thought the music was great, cool, awesome. Some was sad and some was happy and big.

My favourite was probably Mercury.

I think I would like to make up a dance to these songs!

What do you picture when you hear these songs? How do they make you feel? Have a listen and leave us a message!

space

For this term we are leaning about space. There are alot of different planets in our Solar System. Such as : Mars, Mercury, Pluto, Uranus, Saturn and Earth!

In the galaxy there is also a sun, stars, moon and milky way. On some planets there are rings around them. All planets circle around the sun and one planet called pluto goes around on a diagonal route. Jupiter is one of the biggest planets in space.
Did you know the sun is just a middle size star and the stars are bigger then the moon?
You can't live in space because there is no oxygen to breathe in and there is not much gravity at all.

The Last Day

We have been on holidays for the last few weeks, which is why you haven't seen any posts from us lately. Before we went on our break Breanne wrote this recount of Jesus' death. But I forgot to post it. Sorry!
So from The Discovery class, Happy Belated Easter!
There's even a find-a-word at the end for you!
- Miss F
PS we're back at school from tomorrow so you'll be hearing alot more from us! This term is going to be a fun one: excursions, dress up days & sports days!

The Last Day
Jesus said to his disciples, "take this bread and brake it up in between you."
"Drink this whine as rememberence of me when I die on the cross."
So they did.
The next day he died just as he had said to his disciples.

?Why Did He Die On The Cross?
Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins and to love us and care for us. All the whipping and pain Jesus would be in. But just remember Jesus did all of that just for us so we would have a happy life. The next day they put Jesus in a toom where he stayed.
The next day Mary came to the toom and the stone had rolled away from the entrence. So she peeped in and found nothing. She was quite frightened. She thought where is Jesus and started crying.
Then a voice said "it's ok Mary."
She thought who is that so she looked around and saw Jesus.
What a relif!

A fun find-a-word for you to print and do at home :)

Incredible Mission Day

Incredible Mission Day

Mission day is the best day we have ever had.

Mission day is all about learning about different countrys.

Mission day is all about dressing up and going round to different countrys which isnt real.

Mission day is so much fun I bet you want to be here.

There are three reasons why mission day is the best day at school.

Firstly Mission day is a day where you can try some things that other countries do.

You can go to different classes and there different countries where you can dress up as anything and learn new things.

Secondly Mission day is a day that we do crafts from different countries.

When you go to different classes you do craft there. We made Taco-Maracas in Mexico, Babushka dolls in Russia and origami in Japan.

Thirdly you can play things, do craft and even watch some things about the country.

We watched a video on Russia, played Cricket with Mr L & did some Japanese dancing with Miss F.

I undoubtedly believe that Mission Day is the best for everyone because ou can try some things that other countrys do, do crafts from different cultures and even watch some things about the country.

Don't you wish you could have come to Mission Day?

recipe for rainbow cookies

If you like something colourful then you will like these amazing cookies. We made them a few weeks ago to thank the teachers for their help in Seussical. (Our teacher found the recipe on the internet...it's in American though, so she helped us to translate it)
The colours are yellow ,pink, green and blue but it doesnt matter what colour you use.

This is the recipe for the rainbow cookies.

3/4 cup butter
3/8 cup cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 and 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
assorted food colouring

1. In a bowl put cream butter , cream cheese and sugar until it is fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat until smooth.

2.In a bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt.Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.Stir until soft dough forms.Divide dough into quarters.Tint each with a different food colouring.Wrap in plastic and chill for two hours.

3.Preheat oven to 180. Shape colours into 2cm balls. for each cookie place one pink, one orange, one green, and one blue ball together and roll to make a cookie. Place cookies 5cm apart on greased cookie sheet to allow for spreeding.

4.Bake for 8 minuts or until lightly browned.Cool and store in an airtight container... or eat them straight away! ENJOY!

They are undoubtedly awesome.

National Young Leaders day.

On Monday the Junior School Leaders (including us!) went to Sydney for the Nataional Young Leaders Day.

National young leaders day was about how to be a good leader and "why should I follow you?"

Our first speaker was Mike Martin, he told us how to be a good influence.

It is bad to follow a leader because you are scared of what will happen if you don't.

it is good to follow a leader that you trust and someone who is a good example.

The next speaker was Greg Mullin.

He told us that to be a good leader you have to be yourself and believe.

Nothing is impossible and leadership is about people.

Another speaker was Kurt Feanley.

Is a famous wheel chair racer and even climbed the kakodatrack.

He said " help others and be kind. After climbing up the track a friend set up a tent and sat him inside, half an hour later he came back with a warm coke bottle and some twisties.

Then Jessica Watson spoke to us.

When she was 16 she sailed around the world and now is a well known sailor.

when she was young she was scared to touch water and could not swim.

She told us to face our fears.

Finally we had Talia Fowler.

She won so you think you can dance and the American version.

She said to us " to be a good leader you have to be a good role model."

National Young Leaders Day was Supercalafragelisticexpialidocious!

Musings on the 28th March

On the 28th march, The Discovery class did maths and literacy groups. It was very fun. At maths we learned about polygons.literacy groups is a type of work to teach you how to write words properly and we also do something called SRA. SRA is an activity to test how good you are at changing words instead of using easy words like look using hard words like see or saw.
We have some special people from year four that are student leaders and they have gone on a trip to Sydney with our teacher, so we've got a music teacher for the day.

Seussical

I think Seussical is a good musical and I think more kids should participate in more musicals.

Firstly Seussical teachs kids to be confident

It develops kids' singing and acting skills.

Next Seussical teaches kids to act and sing in front of a crowd.

Kids need to rehearse in front of the other kids and perform in front of a lot of people on the night..

Finally seussical is a great musical and kids will love acting in it.

Kids need to act to get their self confident up.
I definitely believe kids will love to participate in more musicals.
